Suitable education

At Summa, your academic and career success is our priority. Some students require additional support. If you have a disability that hinders your learning process, you can access additional support.

It's important that you indicate from the outset if any identified disabilities are hindering your learning process. Also indicate what support you received at your previous school, for example, with a report from your previous school or a research report. This way, we can provide the right support from day one.

Offer of appropriate education

We examine how your disability hinders your full participation in education and/or examinations. Based on this, we determine what support you need to remove that barrier. We incorporate this information into an individual support plan, which we attach to your education agreement. Throughout your educational program, we evaluate your support plan: is it working, is it helping you sufficiently, are adjustments needed? Additional support is not a goal in itself; we only provide it when necessary. The support is always focused on self-reliance; it helps you to increasingly take charge of things yourself. And if things are going well, we can decide together to reduce or discontinue the support. Summa offers three types of additional support:

Adjustments to the learning environment at school

Examples of this are:

  • Your place in the classroom or the possibility of a time-out moment
  • The use of additional resources and materials
  • A (temporary) custom schedule
  • Guidance in learning study skills
  • Coaching focused on social interaction
  • Support in increasing your concentration

Adjustments in vocational training

Examples of this are:

  • Explanation to the internship company about your support needs
  • Additional internship visits
  • Use of tools such as a checklist or working with a step-by-step plan
  • Guidance in increasing your work pace
  • An extra break
  • Support in acquiring professional competencies

Adapted forms of testing and examination

Examples of this are:

  • One exam per day
  • A modified examination

Dyslexia or dyscalculia

If you have a dyslexia certificate or have been diagnosed with severe math difficulties (dyscalculia), you can, if necessary, take a modified exam. Please clearly indicate this during your introductory meeting or personal interview and bring any certificates with you.

We don't promise miracles

Everyone believes that learning is something you do yourself. So, we don't promise miracles. What we do promise is that we will do everything we can to help you as best we can, within the limits of our capabilities.
