Sterile Medical Devices Technician (BBL)

Varied work in healthcare

Doctors and nurses use countless equipment every day to care for, examine, and operate on people. You collect them and, along with your colleagues, ensure they are sterile.

You check whether the instruments are undamaged. If so, you clean, disinfect, sterilize, and package them. This is a very precise and responsible job, because doctors and patients must be able to trust that the instruments are in perfect condition. Like new, in other words.

At school, you'll learn what this profession requires. You'll learn the tools and the rules for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and packaging them. You'll also receive instruction in computer skills, social skills, and communication. You'll be working with many different people, and you'll need to communicate effectively with them.
