All-round hairdresser (bol)

Working with all techniques and all hair types

In a hair salon, you're in your element. You see every client who opens the salon door as a new challenge.

In a hair salon, you're in your element. You treat every client who opens the door as a new challenge. You'll diagnose hair and scalp and advise clients on new hairstyles. This involves considering facial shapes, personality, and colors. You'll also explore trends and new techniques. You'll also advise clients on hair care and products. Together with your colleagues, you'll create a welcoming atmosphere. You're a natural at sensing when clients want to chat with you.

At school, you'll learn the intricacies of hairdressing: cutting, styling, blow-drying, styling, perms, waves, and coloring. You'll learn that a different hair color can make a huge difference, but also that some people are allergic to hair dye and color rinses. You'll take this into account when giving advice. You'll also learn to work well together and manage your colleagues.

What are you becoming?

As an all-around hairdresser or hairstylist, you'll work in a hair salon. This could also be a specialized business, such as a women's hairdresser, men's hairdresser, or a trendy hairdresser, depending on your specialization. You can also continue your studies with the Level 4 Salon Manager program.

What does your education look like?

In the first part of the program, you'll attend school four days a week and do an internship one day a week. In the second part of the program, you'll choose your specialization: Female Hairstylist or Male Hairstylist. You'll attend school three days a week and do an internship two days a week.

Personalized learning
We'll always discuss your learning path with you to determine what it will look like. This means you can complete the program in two to three years.

Education and Examination Regulations (OER)

The Education and Examination Regulations (OER) of a course specify what you will be doing in which period, how much time is spent on this and an overview of the exams that will be taken. Find the OER for your course here.

It's possible to complete the foundation year within one year, but you can also take longer (up to two years). Hairstylists (level 2 vocational and work-based learning) and salon managers (level 3 vocational) are required to complete the foundation year in one year, so they can move on to the Ladies' or Gentlemen's profile section in year two.

Contributing to sustainable development

The Summa Beauty & Lifestyle Hair Care team wants to show everyone what sustainable development means in the hairdressing profession.

The UN has established seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. These goals are intended to make the world a better place for everyone. In hair care programs, you'll contribute to achieving several of these goals, for example, in the areas of waste, health, food, water, or climate.

Examples are Reducing water pollution, using fair-trade suppliers, separating hairdressing waste to reuse raw materials in collaboration with Green Scissors, and much more. It's inspiring to participate in this together with your fellow students and colleagues.
