Basic electrical engineering

Working safely with electricity

Do you want to learn how to work safely with electricity? In this course, you'll learn clearly and practically how current, voltage, and circuits work. You'll become familiar with key concepts, learn to recognize risks, and understand how electrical protection devices like fuses work. Theory and practice are seamlessly combined with relatable examples and exercises.

This basic course is for anyone who wants to learn more about electricity. You don't need any prior knowledge, and you don't even have to work in technology. Electricity is everywhere and plays a vital role in almost every environment: at home, at work, or anywhere else. That's why it's always valuable to have a basic understanding of electricity.

You will learn this

  • What electricity is and how it is used
  • Concepts such as voltage, current, alternating and direct current, 1- and 3-phase
  • Series and parallel connections
  • Risks when working with electricity
  • Protection devices such as fuses, circuit breakers and earth leakage circuit breakers
  • Safe working: working without voltage, LOTOV and measuring
  • Identify and understand electrical components
  • Common deficiencies such as missing cable insulation, contamination and temperature influences.
