Care and welfare assistant (bbl)

As a healthcare and social care assistant, you'll have a job where no two days are the same! You'll help people who need support for whatever reason. Think of people with disabilities or elderly people who can no longer manage everything themselves due to declining health. You'll provide support with things like eating and drinking, personal care, and meaningful activities.

You work 20 to 24 hours a week at a training company and you go to school 1 day a week on Monday or Tuesday.

The school day consists primarily of lessons where the theory of the subject is used as a helpful tool. You will also learn practical skills.

You'll learn to support people in their own living environment. This includes helping with eating and drinking, housework, and personal care. You'll take into account the client's wishes, needs, and abilities, as well as the agreements in the (care) plan. You'll learn to empower people to do as much as possible for themselves and offer support where needed.

The subjects Dutch, Mathematics, and Citizenship are standard in this program. You'll also choose additional electives to specialize further. More information about the electives offered can be found under "Electives."

The statutory tuition fee for the 2026-2027 school year is 314 euros.

Laptop

For many study programs, students cannot do without a laptop. Check the overview to see if this applies to your program and download the correct specifications.

You will take subjects that train you for the profession, as well as standard lessons such as Dutch and arithmetic. In addition, you choose electives to broaden or deepen your knowledge. Examples include International, In-depth Care, Healthcare Assistant Plus, and Support in Childcare. During your training, you will receive more information about the electives you can take. You complete each elective with an exam.

For basic vocational training (level 2) you must meet one of the following conditions:

• You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a basic vocational track, a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a framework vocational track, a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a theoretical track, or a mixed track.
• You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
• You have an entry-level training or basic vocational training diploma (level 2).
• You have proof that you have successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). This proof is recognized by the government.

Work

You must have an employment contract of at least 20 hours per week with a recognized training company before starting the training. If you do not work at such a company, we will help you find a suitable apprenticeship placement. You will search for this yourself. For recognized training companies, visit www.brabantzorg.net.

A Hepatitis B vaccination is arranged and covered by the school. Without this vaccination, you cannot do an internship or work at your training company.
