Entrance – Assistant Metal, Electrical and Installation Technology (BBL)

The entry-level program leads to a metalworking assistant position. As a metalworking, electrical, and installation assistant, you'll help install water, gas, and heating pipes. You'll also custom-make pipes, cables, and cable trays and work with metal.

This course was previously called Assistant Installation and Construction Technology.

What are you becoming?

With your entry-level diploma, you can work at an installation company. You may also be able to continue your studies at a level 2 vocational education (MBO) program.

This is one of your teachers

What does your education look like?

You'll have a permanent mentor and work at school one day a week in a group of up to 1 students. You'll receive intensive guidance and receive theoretical and practical lessons at school. You'll also work several days a week at a training company.

Education and Examination Regulations (OER)

The Education and Examination Regulations (OER) of a course specify what you will be doing in which period, how much time is spent on this and an overview of the exams that will be taken. Find the OER for your course here.

Search by your Crebo number (see the box on the right of this page) to view the OER for the current academic year. This will give you a general idea of what's expected of you when you start the program. The OER for the upcoming academic year will be available in July.

Statutory tuition fees

The statutory tuition fee for the 2026-2027 school year is 314 euros.

Other costs

You pay €75 for learning materials. The school uses this to purchase all learning resources, such as consumables and software licenses. This also covers additional tests and exams.

Elective courses

You'll take courses that prepare you for the profession, as well as standard courses like Dutch and math. There are also electives that let you choose what you want to learn. You'll receive more information about this during your program. Each elective concludes with an exam. 

What prior education do you need?

For the entrance course (level 1) you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You are at least 16 years old on August 1 of the year in which you start the course.
  • You cannot follow a level 2, 3, or 4 vocational education course because you do not meet the admission requirements for those courses.

Work at a recognized training company

During a personal interview or introductory meeting, we'll determine if this program is a good fit for you. To participate in this program, you must work at an accredited training company. If you don't work for such a company, we'll help you find a suitable work placement. You'll be responsible for finding one yourself.
