Looking for a (new) challenge? Considering a career change? Are you passionate about healthcare? Then becoming a pharmacy assistant might be just the job for you! As a pharmacy assistant, you'll perform responsible work. Patients trust you to give them the right medications. This way, you'll care for people without physical contact.

You assist people who come to the pharmacy with advice and information about, for example, the effects of the medication, storage methods, side effects, and how to use it. You work daily to provide good and error-free pharmaceutical care to patients.

You will learn this

To perform this profession effectively, you need extensive knowledge of medication. You'll learn to check whether a medication is compatible with other medications the patient is taking and to keep accurate records. Communication is a key priority. Good communication is crucial in collaborating with colleagues and patients.

In addition to theory about the active ingredient, administration methods, and dosage of medications, you will also receive training in reading and administering prescriptions. You will also learn how and what information to provide to people about medications and/or over-the-counter products.

Costs

The statutory tuition fee for the 2025-2026 school year is €735. Books and licenses cost between €250 and €450.

With your diploma you can continue your studies at a higher professional education program, such as pharmacy or the pharmaceutical consultant program.

Preliminary training

You can only take this course if you work 24 to 28 hours per week at an accredited training company. If your employer isn't accredited, or if you're unsure whether it is, please contact us. We're happy to help.

You need a completed vmbo-t diploma or a completed mbo level 3 diploma.
