Reprocessing flexible endoscopes

You will learn this

The course consists of four days of classes. You will receive an assignment to prepare for each day, which you must complete beforehand. During the class, various topics will be explored in more detail, using input from you and your fellow students based on the preparatory assignment. After each day, you will work on a practical assignment that links theory to professional practice. All assignments will be compiled into a personal portfolio.

Lesson day 1:

  • Hygiene and infection prevention (microbiology, PPE);
  • Working according to instructions (protocols, SFERD manual);
  • Legislation and regulations, guidelines.

Lesson day 2:

  • Types of flexible endoscopes (quarantine, reusable/disposable, MHM accessories such as valves/biopteurs);
  • Functionality of endoscopes with associated anatomy/pathology;
  • Introduction to the decontamination process (cleaning, disinfecting and drying).

Lesson day 3:

  • Process of pre-cleaning, cleaning and disinfecting and drying of endoscopes;
  • Equipment (pre)cleaning/disinfection of flexible endoscopes (microbiological control, water quality);
  • Working safely with flexible endoscopes;
  • Dealing with emergencies;
  • Spindle kit;
  • Occupational health and safety, resources and PPE.

Lesson day 4:

  • Instrument tracking system;
  • Transport of endoscopes;
  • Storage of endoscopes.

Costs

€1.250 per participant, including learning materials, with a minimum of 10 participants.

Summa courses and teaching materials provided by Summa are exempt from VAT. Read more about training costs.

Preliminary training

  • You work at least 24 hours per week in the department.
  • You'll have a dedicated supervisor throughout your training program. Your supervisor will also assess your assignments.
  • You will have the opportunity to do a half-day internship in the Gastroenterology department during the training program.
  • You'll have the opportunity to complete practical assignments. You don't need to be scheduled off-duty for this. However, there should be an opportunity to ask questions or gather information.

Certificate of Education

After successfully completing the training program and receiving a positive assessment of your personal portfolio, you will receive the "Reprocessing Flexible Endoscopes" certificate. This certificate will allow you to perform the relevant work responsibly.

This course has been awarded 60 accreditation points by the SVN.

The personal portfolio, including an assessment and feedback from the subject matter teacher, serves as a suitable basis for progressing to the work-based learning program. Sterile Medical Devices Technician (MSMH).
