Rock City Institute offers 5 specializations: vocals, drums, bass guitar, guitar, and keyboards. All lessons are held in the Rock City Institute building. PopEgg on Strijp-S.

Besides instrumental skills, the business and technical aspects of the profession are also covered. You'll learn to collaborate and play together intensively, laying a solid foundation for a career in the music industry. The Rock City Company training program will help you gain experience in performing, organizing festivals, and workshops.

What are you becoming?

You will be trained as a musician. After completing this program, you can work as an independent artist/entrepreneur in the music industry, for example, as a performing artist, in a studio, as a music teacher, or in music management. You can also continue your studies at universities of applied sciences (HBO). Consider music-related programs such as the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, the Rock Academy in Tilburg, or the HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht).

What does your education look like?

During the program, you'll develop many skills you'll need as a band member/artist. We focus on mastering repertoire, writing and arranging your own pieces, playing together, rehearsing, performing, developing and conducting workshops, and so on. Collaboration plays a key role. In addition, there's a strong focus on the business side of the profession. You'll also take general subjects like Career, Math, Dutch, and English. You'll gain the necessary practical experience at our in-house training company, Rock City Company.

Rock City Institute has its own training company, Rock City Company. You'll complete a mandatory internship (BPV) every year. You'll organize and deliver festivals, educational workshops (clinics), merchandising, and music production.

During the three years of study, RCI offers several electives that may be relevant after your studies, such as: Live Technique, Studio Technique, HBO Preparation, and Setting Up Your Own Teaching Practice. These allow you to broaden or deepen your skills and prepare for advancement to a higher level. You will take an exam for each elective.

Limited number of places available

This is a training with a limited number of placesIt's important to apply on time. This increases your chances of getting a place in the program, provided you meet the admission requirements. It's also wise to apply for another program that suits you.

What prior education do you need?

For the vocational training (level 3) and middle management training (level 4) you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, a theoretical pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, or a mixed pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track.
  • You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
  • You have a basic vocational training diploma (level 2) or a diploma from another vocational training course (level 3).
  • You have proof that you successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). Or you have another diploma or certificate recognized by the government.

Audition

To determine whether you will be admitted to the program, you must first audition. The admissions procedure consists of two parts:

  1. A performance for an admissions committee.
    The performance consists of 3 songs, preferably with a band.
  2. An intake interview.
    Motivation, vision for the future and social skills are discussed.
