Social worker (bol)

After three years, you'll graduate as a social worker (also known as a social worker) and can start working for a municipality, housing association, or welfare organization, for example. Alternatively, you can continue your studies at a university of applied sciences (HBO). You can, for example, progress to the following HBO programs: Social Work, Pedagogy, Applied Psychology (with mathematics at the senior general secondary education level), and the Social Legal Services program. Whatever you choose, we'll work together to ensure you're well-prepared for the future.

During your Social Worker training, in addition to subjects you need for your future profession, you will also take a number of general subjects and do an internship.

• In the first year of your program, you'll first explore your options: you'll carefully examine your training and profession, and identify your learning needs. Who am I as a social worker, what are their areas of expertise, and how can I develop within these areas? 
• In the second year, as a social worker, you'll focus on social services and/or cultural work. You'll complete a three-day internship. A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for the internship. 
• In the third year, you'll complete a graduation internship. You'll research a specific topic within your internship, identifying areas for improvement. You'll then develop an action plan and implement improvement measures. You'll need a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) for the internship.

During your studies, you'll work increasingly independently. You'll increasingly determine your own learning path. Once you've mastered all the work processes for your future career, you can graduate.

Search by your Crebo number (see the box on the right of this page) to view the OER for the current academic year. This will give you a general idea of what's expected of you when you start the program. The OER for the upcoming academic year will be available in July.

The statutory tuition fee for the 2027-2028 academic year is 1.554 euros. Check DUO.nl for possible student finance.

Laptop

For many study programs, students cannot do without a laptop. Check the overview to see if this applies to your program and download the correct specifications.

During your studies, you choose one or more electives to specialize or to broaden your education. Through these electives, you will primarily add color to your profession as a social worker. Examples include electives such as social security, labor market participation, or youth and parenting support. You will receive more information about the electives you can take during your studies. For the vocational training (level 3) and middle management training (level 4) you must meet one of the following conditions:

• You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, a theoretical pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, or a mixed pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track.
• You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
• You have a basic vocational training diploma (level 2) or a diploma from another vocational training course (level 3).
• You have proof that you successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). Or you have another diploma or certificate recognized by the government.

You will be invited for a personal interview or introductory meeting where you will get to know the school and we will see if this course is a good fit for you.

To do an internship, you need a Certificate of Conduct (VOG). Almost all training companies require this. We advise you to ensure that you can obtain a VOG before you start the program. This is to prevent you from being unable to do an internship and possibly having to discontinue your studies. Read everything about the Certificate of Conduct (VOG) here.
