Sports pedagogical professional (bol)

Enter the world of after-school care, education, and sports and make a difference in the lives of children and young people! 

This is a new training course for enthusiastic, sporty people who enjoy variety and organizing activities.

Getting started as a sports pedagogical professional

As a pedagogical professional with a specialization in sports and exercise, you are versatile and you play an important role in the broad development of children and young people.

In this role, you'll guide children and young people and maintain contact with parents and colleagues. You'll monitor their development and tailor your actions accordingly.

Experienced teachers and professionals

During the program, you'll develop pedagogical skills and learn the basics of various sports and exercise activities. You'll learn how to organize and run activities and how to create a safe and positive group atmosphere. You'll encourage children and young people to get active and bring out the best in them. You'll also be a coaching, supportive, and respectful individual, tailoring your support to the needs of the target group. This way, you contribute to a socially safe environment where children enjoy learning, playing, and exercising.

Are you athletic and eager to learn, enthusiastic, and motivated? Then this is the program that will get you moving, on your way to a sporting and meaningful career as a pedagogical professional.

What are you becoming?

Upon successful completion of this program, you can combine the Sports and Exercise Instructor diploma (MBO level 3) with a Specialized Pedagogical diploma (level 4). You will also take the Didactic Support for Primary Education elective. With these diplomas and successful completion of the elective, you can work, for example, as a (sports) instructor in (after-school) childcare or as a (sports) teaching assistant.

You can also continue studying at a university of applied sciences.

What does your education look like?

You and your classmates will participate in an inspiring, challenging, and sporty program spread over three academic years. You'll learn the following:

Pedagogical skills: focuses on the development of children and young people and creates a safe and stimulating environment. 

Organizing sports and exercise activities: get everyone moving and motivate them to participate actively. 

Collaboration: learn how to collaborate effectively with colleagues and how to prepare activities and support the teacher or educational staff member in the classroom, at the (daycare) center, and at the sports facility. 

You will develop in pedagogy, didactics, sports and exercise.

The Education and Examination Regulations (OER) of a course specify what you will be doing in which period, how much time is spent on this and an overview of the exams that will be taken. Find the OER for your course here.

The statutory tuition fee for the 2026-2027 school year is €1.511. Check DUO.nl for possible student financing.

Elective courses

During your studies, you choose one or more electives to specialize or broaden your knowledge. For example, in entrepreneurship, management, programming, or a language. You'll receive more information about the electives available during your program. Each elective concludes with an exam. Read more about elective courses.

What prior education do you need?

For the vocational training (level 3) and middle management training (level 4) you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, a theoretical pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, or a mixed pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track.
  • You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
  • You have a basic vocational training diploma (level 2) or a diploma from another vocational training course (level 3).
  • You have proof that you successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). Or you have another diploma or certificate recognized by the government.

During a personal interview or introductory meeting, we'll determine whether this program is a good fit for you. To be eligible for this program, you must work at least 610 hours annually at an accredited training company. You will be responsible for finding a suitable work placement. Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) required

To be eligible for an internship, you need a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG). Almost all training companies require this. We recommend that you ensure you can obtain a VOG before starting your program. This will prevent you from being unable to complete an internship and possibly having to discontinue your program.
