Students see the importance of cleanroom technology: first elective immediately full

25 August 2026
Two students at Summa Techniek learn how to put on a cleanroom suit according to protocols during the new course "Working in a Cleanroom."

There is great interest in Summa's new Cleanroom / Contamination Control elective. All available places have now been filled. Students from the Mechatronics and Process Technology programs are deliberately choosing to gain additional knowledge about cleanroom technology.

Anyone looking to work in the Brainport region's high-tech industry in the near future will increasingly encounter cleanrooms. In sectors such as the semiconductor industry, medical technology, defense, and precision engineering, companies manufacture their products in environments where extreme cleanliness, process discipline, and the prevention of contamination are crucial.

“Students are noticing that cleanroom technology plays an increasingly important role within high-tech,” says cleanroom expert Juriaan Vis of Summa. “It not only offers interesting career opportunities but also provides very good prospects for a well-paid job.”

Practice takes center stage

The new elective addresses this. Theory is alternated with practical assignments. Armed with microscopes and UV light, students, for example, track down the smallest, invisible pollution themselves to discover how it is formed and, even more importantly, how to prevent it.

Separate course for employees

The elective starts in September at Summa Techniek on the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven. A second Cleanroom / Contamination Control group starts halfway through the academic year.

Summa has developed a separate course on working in a cleanroom for employees of companies.
