Signing of the Agreement on the Kempen Logistics Vocational School

The transport and logistics sector in the Kempen region is receiving a significant boost with the establishment of the Logistics Vocational School. Thanks to a unique collaboration between the Summa educational institution and leading logistics companies in the region, a vocational training program has been established that seamlessly integrates theory and practice. This means students can now pursue vocational training in their own region and gain immediate work experience.

The Logistics Vocational School offers a work-based learning program, where students spend four days a week working in the field at accredited companies and one day a week attending on-site training. "This has already left us wanting more," says Roel Akkerman, director of Summa Transport & Logistics. "The feedback from the companies involved in this region has been so positive. We want to establish similar vocational schools in other regions with companies in the sector in the future!"

Solution to the shortage of logistics personnel

The transport and logistics sector has been struggling with a shortage of well-trained employees for years. By collaborating and offering practice-oriented vocational training in their own region, students have the opportunity to start working immediately and optimally prepare for a future in transport and logistics. The Logistics Vocational School in Kempen will open its doors in August 2025, offering training programs for logistics employee en road transport driver.

Collaboration is a boost for the sector

"It's fantastic that we're achieving this collaboration with Summa," says Yvonne Peeters, Executive Manager at KLG Europe. "In a short time, we've created something we truly believe in: a concept that will boost the sector and increase the visibility of logistics in the Kempen region. We're going to do this together, with courage and boldness. We're taking a unique step by optimally connecting education and business."

The steering committee behind this initiative consists of several companies from the region. Twenty more companies will join in the coming period, further expanding the number of training and internship opportunities in the Kempen region.
