Team Summa 'Dukes of Brabant' ready for international robotics spectacle

From Thursday, July 3rd to Saturday, July 5th, the Indoor Sports Centre in Eindhoven will be all about futuristic technology and young talent. During the FIRST Tech Challenge European Premier Event, 96 top teams from thirty countries will compete, armed with self-built and programmed robots. Among them: our own students from Summa Engineering: team Summa Dukes of Brabant.

Forget robot soccer or simple pioneering: this is top-level sport at a technical level. In a series of nerve-wracking matches, the robots perform complex tasks independently and with controllers. Think of autonomously throwing blocks into baskets or robots hoisting themselves up a bar. The more challenging the task, the more points. And that requires precision, speed, strategy, and a healthy dose of courage.

Summa Dukes of Brabant

The Summa Dukes of Brabant team consists of six Summa Engineering students from various years. Even a former student is joining us for this mission. "We want to show what we're made of, as a tech team, as students, and as proud representatives of Eindhoven," says Francis Roosen, a Summa Engineering lecturer. "We've worked incredibly hard on the robot. We're more than ready to show the world what Summa stands for."

More than a competition

Anyone who thinks this is just a few games of robot football is mistaken. The European Premier Event is a celebration of technology, creativity, and young minds. "This event is much more than a competition; it's a unique collaboration between businesses, educational institutions, and young people, who are building a future together, driven by technology, entrepreneurship, and social impact." Roosen: "Participating in this competition is about much more than winning," says Roosen. "It's a place where technology comes to life, where collaboration and innovation are central. And honestly, if we're going to participate, we'd love to leave an unforgettable impression!"

The tournament is organized by the STEAMup Foundation, in collaboration with Brainport Eindhoven, ASML, TU/e, Fontys, and Summa, among others. Visitors can enter for free on Friday, July 4th, from 09.00:17.00 AM to 5:13.00 PM and Saturday, July 17.00th, from 1:XNUMX PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM at the Indoor Sports Center Eindhoven, Theo Koomenlaan XNUMX.
