Classmates are really your colleagues
Jelle Dijkstra
Student Care and Welfare Assistant
My heart lies in acting. I'm going to try to get a good education for this profession, but that's not for everyone. At the same time, I'm truly a caring person and I really enjoy being able to make a difference for people. That's why I'm pursuing a Care and Welfare Assistant program to gain a good, broad foundation in care and welfare. Afterward, I want to move more towards caregiving by completing a combined program in IG Caregiver and Social Care.
During the training to become a caregiver, you'll first learn the basics, such as simple care tasks like tidying up. As you progress, you'll gradually be assigned more challenging care tasks, specifically focused on children, the elderly, or people with disabilities.
I learn more from practical experience than from books. That's another reason I like the internships. My first internship was in Oirschot and the second in Eindhoven. You notice a big difference between the village and the city. Completely different people. Of course, at a different organization, the work is also done differently. You learn about so many different internships.
Tip: Above all, be yourself. Do what you love, and you'll learn it. Take it step by step and at your own pace, and you'll get there.
