Behind the scenes at NOS: 'It was real teamwork!'
As a Summa student, you get to visit inspiring places. For example, Anouk Kortooms (19) from Deurne recently spent a day behind the scenes at a live NOS broadcast. "A wonderful experience, special, and very impressive."
Anouk will soon graduate as a Level 4 all-round beautician at Summa Beauty & Lifestyle. She was asked to work as a makeup artist on the live broadcast of Skills Heroes, the Netherlands' leading vocational competition for vocational students. "I jumped at the chance, of course. My instructor had already given me a private makeup course; it turned out to be perfect!"
Do not shine
In total, Anouk, along with NOS makeup artist Angelique van Berkel, applied makeup to nine interviewees. "It was true teamwork. Angelique taught me new things, like why certain makeup is important for television. In a studio with lights, your face has to look even, not shiny. It was quite an experience to have to treat different skin types in a relatively short time. Men and women mixed together. You had to adapt quickly, which was quite challenging."
Early in the day, she also joined the TV reporters who were filming the event and interviewing attendees. "I also had a good look around Skills. And of course, I went to see the Beauty Specialist competition. The girls in the finals were all very good. It was interesting to see that everyone had their own treatment and used different techniques."
Had a great day
For Anouk, Skills Heroes was also a day to remember because of her NOS adventure. "I highly recommend everyone to participate in these competitions. I may not have made it to the finals, but I still had a fantastic day that I thoroughly enjoyed."
Has the TV world captured her heart? Anouk has other plans. “I'm really enjoying my internship at Michelle's Sparkling Beauty in Deurne. Next year, I want to start the Medical Pedicure program; I already took a pedicure elective with great enthusiasm. Along with the all-around beautician diploma, I'll have a great package. The great thing about pedicure is that you can help people with a painful corn or an ingrown toenail get rid of their problems. That's my caring side. But I also get energy from beauty treatments. And in the coming years, I especially want to learn a lot about the beauty profession.”
