Alannah from Apeldoorn comes to Eindhoven especially for the Beauty & Wellness course
July 04, 2025
“I live in Apeldoorn. That says something about how much I wanted to take this course.” Alannah Zegers (25) had been wondering for a while whether she would go back to work or go back to school. But which course do you choose?
Alannah Zegers always knew she wanted to do something in beauty, personal care, or fashion. But finding the right program proved more challenging than she'd anticipated. "I have a daughter who's almost four, so a vocational program wasn't financially feasible. After several applications and rejections because I wasn't flexible enough, I came across Summa College's all-around vocational Beauty & Wellness program through Thermen Bussloo. It's currently the only school offering this program. It was exactly what I was looking for."
Is it even feasible?
Going back to school, all the way in Eindhoven. Is that even feasible? This question crossed Alannah's mind before she decided to take the plunge. "I saw the new program and was bummed that it was all the way in Eindhoven. I'd be spending a total of four hours traveling. I hesitated a lot, and what convinced me was that this was the only Beauty & Wellness vocational program in the Netherlands. That's why I just wanted to give it a try."
Taking travel time into account
My classmates come from all over the country. That's why it's great that our class schedule takes into account our start and finish times. Instead of classes at 9.00:11 AM, we start at 19.00:XNUMX AM and continue until XNUMX:XNUMX PM. This way, I don't have to travel during rush hour. Meanwhile, I've gotten used to the commute again. I now use it for homework. It's also nice that you only have classes one day a week. That's manageable. The other four days, I work at Termen Bussloo, which is thankfully close to Apeldoorn.
Automatic pilot
Alannah proudly explains that she's learned a lot not only at school but also at her training company. "I've reached the point where I can give relaxation massages. I learned the technique during a three-day training course. They first demonstrated the entire massage, explained the tricks, and gave you a reader to review and practice."
While Alannah used to have to think about whether she'd already done a certain stroke and which one came next, it's now much smoother. "Giving a relaxing massage is almost automatic now. I'm not thinking about what the next stroke is, but about what we're going to have for dinner," Alannah laughs. "I also relax while giving a massage. During the treatment, I close my eyes and work intuitively. Wonderful."
Positively surprised
Alannah was pleasantly surprised by Summa College. “I found anatomy and physiology particularly interesting because you learn more about your own body. You immediately apply the theory by practicing on each other during the practical lessons. Those are always the most enjoyable parts of the day. Last time, for example, we got to practice waxing. You not only learn a lot about the profession, but you also grow in your personal development. Thanks to the Beauty & Wellness program, I feel better about myself.”
Own salon
"I love working at Thermen Bussloo and learning as much as I can here. But my ultimate goal is to one day start my own business, where I do more than just provide treatments."
