Summa students receive Youth Ribbons
On Monday, November 20, 2023, young heroes across the country received a Youth Medal. In Eindhoven, Summa student Abdelaziz Hadda was honored, and in Helmond, Summa student Sterre van de Boogaard was.
What is a Youth Ribbon?
The Youth Ribbon recognizes young people who have made a significant contribution to society. With the Youth Ribbon, each municipality encourages young people to do good work for others. These include children who have provided extended support to the elderly, the sick, or the lonely. It also recognizes young people who volunteer, have saved a life, or have organized a campaign for a good cause, their neighborhood, or the community.
Abdelaziz Hadda (18 years old)
Abdelaziz has been teaching boxing and fitness classes to young people in his Eindhoven neighborhood for years. Every week, he dedicates eight hours to his busy school schedule to training them. With a background in three martial arts disciplines, he inspires them and serves as a role model. Even during the coronavirus pandemic, Abdelaziz offered the young people online classes to keep them engaged. With his Health and Welfare major at Summa College, he hopes to be able to do more for the next generation in the future.
Sterre van den Boogaard (21 years old)
Sterre van den Boogaard of Summa Safety received a Youth Medal from the mayor in Helmond on November 20, 2023. She and fellow student Ruben Lindenhovius have also been nominated for the Brabander of the Year award. Sterre and Ruben organized Boots on the Ground, a grueling 200 km hike to raise awareness and money for veterans of the military with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They walked for four days with a group of students, in all weather conditions. Do you want Sterre and Ruben to win the title of Brabander of the Year? You can cast your vote here before December 4th.
