“Every day is different, that's what I like most about this job.”
Nineteen-year-old Luuk van Norden from Geldrop knows exactly why a technical education is a good fit for him. "Sitting behind a laptop makes me restless. But as soon as I work with my hands, I get hyperfocused and can concentrate effectively."
Luuk follows the bbl training First engineer for electrical installations in the built environment At Summa in Eindhoven, he works four days a week at Van Stratum Techniek in Geldrop. "It's a great company with a safe working atmosphere. Colleagues help me when needed, and I can always share my experiences in my private life. That feels good."
Coincidentally in technology
His choice for electrical engineering came unexpectedly. "I didn't really know anyone in this field. My parents met the owner of Van Stratum at the soccer field. When I was given the choice between residential and commercial construction, the latter immediately appealed to me. Larger scale, more versatile, and I thought: I can do more with that."
Varied work
Luuk has been working at Van Stratum for almost three years now and has worked on a wide variety of projects. "I've done renovation projects and worked as a service and maintenance technician. Every day is different, and that's what makes it so enjoyable. I'm truly being trained here as an all-rounder."
Ambitions for the future
Luuk is looking ahead to 2030. "By then, I want to be an independent mechanic. Someone who runs their own projects, orders materials, and solves technical challenges. My goal is to deliver a project I'm proud of, with solutions the customer can rely on."
Luuk previously told his story in the E&W magazine in the section Selfie May 2025.
