Golden Gard for former student Lisa

July 04, 2025

Lisa Matthijssen, a former student of Summa Brood & Banket, wins the Golden Gard.

Lisa Matthijssen, a former Pastry Chef at Summa Brood & Banket, made a bold statement a few years ago: "Someday I want to win the Gouden Gard." And she did it! The Association's professional competitions Golden Gard are held annually at the Miele Experience Center in Vianen.

In the prehistory theme, Lisa worked hard for seven hours on a huge blue chocolate dinosaur, which she impressed the jury with. Afterwards, she still couldn't quite believe it: "Wow, this is truly amazing! It really needs some time to sink in. I'm really, really happy with this award." Not only the jury was impressed. The Gouden Gard followers on social media also voted Lisa into first place. A fun fact: Lisa was presented with the Gouden Gard by Lotte Dierick. she won the Golden Gard in 2016, and she also completed her Pastry Chef training at Summa.

Besides Lisa, there was more success. Janna van Eijk won the Bronze Gard with her French-themed pieces. Milou Jansen finished second in the Talent competitionThe Talent Competition assignment was to create two identical cakes, which a jury of professionals and consumers would then judge on presentation, techniques, flavor, and decorations. Milou is also studying to become a Pastry Chef. Janna has since graduated.
