New program helps students choose the right technology direction
Summa is launching the Technology and Engineering Orientation Program (OTT) for the 2025/2026 academic year. This innovative educational program offers students the opportunity to gain intensive knowledge of a wide range of technical disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, and automotive technology. This allows them to discover where their passion and talent truly lie, enabling them to make a well-informed choice for a technical postgraduate program that perfectly suits them.
With this initiative, Summa is taking a significant step toward attracting and training technical talent to meet the growing demand for qualified technical personnel within the Brainport region. The program is a concrete implementation of the Beethoven project, which stipulates that educational institutions train additional talent for the broader microchip industry, including suppliers. With proven success and growing interest, other vocational education institutions can adopt this successful approach.
Well-founded study choice
The program is offered by Summa Engineering, located on the TU/e campus in Eindhoven, and starting in the new academic year, gives students the opportunity to gain intensive knowledge of a wide range of technical disciplines. "Summa offers a wide range of technical programs," says Willy Ickenroth, director of Summa Engineering. "During the program, students gain initial experience in fields such as metal technology, electrical and installation technology, laboratory engineering, automotive engineering, process technology, and ICT. It's all technical, but very broad!"
The new orientation program leads students to a well-founded study choice and offers excellent preparation for a technical follow-up education at MBO level 3 or 4. If desired and feasible, a student can already enroll in a chosen program during the program.
Extensive practical experience
During the program, students attend classes at Summa's various technology locations and gain extensive practical experience through internships, company visits, and workshops. They also participate in career development, develop personal skills, and work on subjects such as math, Dutch, English, and citizenship.
The program is suitable for secondary school students with a diploma, students with a transfer certificate from HAVO level 3 to 4 or VWO level 3, and MBO students who have completed a maximum of one year of level 4 or XNUMX education and want to gain a broader perspective before making a final choice.
