Victoria now has more confidence
"Becoming a lawyer later, that sounds fancy, doesn't it?" At least, that's what Victoria thought. Her uncle was a lawyer, and she was certain she wanted to be one too. After completing a dual track program in pre-university education (HAVO), Victoria decided not to go on to pre-university education (VWO) or higher professional education (HBO), but to go to intermediate vocational education (MBO). "I'm a good student, but I learn better by doing. A large part of training to become a lawyer consists of reading texts. That's not something I'm happy with."
From pre-university education to intermediate vocational education
When Victoria was in high school, she went on a study trip to Rome. She was amazed by all the beautiful things she saw in the shop windows. "The study trip was the moment I first thought about fashion," Victoria says. "ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, the most well-known art academy, was the most obvious school for me. But I didn't feel at home there. The atmosphere wasn't appealing, and everyone was very competitive. The bar was very high, and the admissions process was strict. The vocational college felt safer, and Summa College is closer to home. That meant I didn't have to move out."
Quick selection
“My preference initially went to the Fashion Designer course. Because I was late with my application, the course was full and I applied to the Fashion Tailor trainingIt was meant to be. If I'd been accepted into Fashion Designer, I would never have learned to tailor. That gives me a strong position in the market. I can design and create it."
Self confidence
I'm most proud of my self-designed and hand-made denim shirt dress. I did everything myself, from brand research and creating a mood board to designing and making the dress. My mother wears my design with pride. That's what I love most about this program. What do I want to do next? I'd like to pursue the Master Tailor program. Then I'll be ready, because I've learned the basics at Fashion Tailor and have more confidence.
