Care and welfare assistant

Help with daily living

This is a work-study (BBL) program that allows you to obtain an MBO diploma.

Would you like to make a difference for others, and do you prefer working practically and with a focus on people? Then the Healthcare and Welfare Assistant training might be a good fit for you.

As a care and welfare assistant, you support people in their daily lives. You are service-oriented, enjoy getting your hands dirty, and have an eye for what someone needs. You often work with the elderly, people who are ill, or people with disabilities who need help in their own living environment. You can also work supporting children, for example in a host family.

You assist with household tasks, activities, and support with eating and drinking. Additionally, you learn how to assist with care tasks, such as helping with washing, dressing, and using the toilet. In doing so, you always take into account the client's wishes, habits, and capabilities. This makes your work valuable and personal.

During the program, you develop the knowledge and skills you need to perform this work well and with confidence. You immediately apply what you learn at school in practice during your internship. This way, you discover step by step what suits you and grow into your role.

Together, we will determine which learning path best suits your situation, experience, and capabilities. This means that you may sometimes be able to complete the program faster, or conversely, receive more time if that suits you better. The fixed start date is in August. If you wish to join later, we will assess together what is feasible and whether there is a suitable time to start.

Do you want to work in a profession where you truly make a difference to others? Then discover what this program can mean for you.

You already work in healthcare and want to obtain a vocational (MBO) diploma. Or you'd like to work in healthcare as a lateral entrant. Then this program is perfect for you. You'll learn how to support those in need of care in their daily lives.

You will learn this

You'll learn how to support people in need with daily activities, such as eating, drinking, grocery shopping, tidying up, and cleaning. You'll learn how to assist them with their personal care and how to support them during activities and outings. So, you'll learn how to provide effective assistance, but also how to encourage people to do as much as possible for themselves, if possible.

The subjects Dutch, math, and citizenship are standard in this program. You'll also choose additional electives to specialize.

After completing this program, you can work as a support worker at an institution that offers support and guidance in housing, daytime activities, and leisure time. You can also continue your studies with a level-3 vocational program, for example, as a social care worker.
