Are you creative with content, crazy about data and online trends, or do you want to turn your passion for sports and marketing into your profession? In this MBO-4 Marketing & Communication Specialist course, you will learn how to reach, engage, and activate target audiences.

The world is changing rapidly, and companies are looking for specialists who make an impact both online and offline. That is why, within this program, you choose the direction that truly suits you:

Creative Business
The perfect mix of media, marketing, and creative production. You devise innovative concepts, build strong brands, and translate ideas into visual and digital experiences for social media and campaigns.

Digital Business & Marketing
The field where marketing, data, and commerce converge. You will discover how online behavior leads to sales, how to smartly deploy advertisements (such as Google and Meta Ads), and how to grow businesses with digital strategies.

Sports marketing
This is much broader than just “sports marketing.” It revolves around the entire sports industry as a business. You combine your passion for sport with marketing, organize events, engage fans via social media, and work on assignments for real clubs and sports brands.

Whichever direction you choose, you learn by doing. You work on real projects and develop the skills that the job market of tomorrow demands.

De The training to become a marketing & communication specialist has a own film and photography studio. In this studio, we have green screens, a teleprompter, and camera drones, among other things. Perfect for creating authentic influencer content or professional video productions.

Within the program, you can choose from a wide variety of electives. Entrepreneurship, for example, if your dream is to start your own business after graduation. Summa offers a huge range of electives; see further down this page. We believe it's important that you have extensive practical experience. That's why we have strong relationships with companies for whom you'll also carry out real-world assignments.

What are you becoming?

With your Marketing & Communication Specialist diploma in hand, the possibilities are endless. Exactly what you will do depends, of course, on the direction you choose:

After the Creative Business track, you become, for example

  • Content creator / Social Media specialist. You create videos, posts, and stories that resonate with people and can go viral.
  • Brand specialist / Creative concept thinker. You will build brand identities and devise striking media campaigns.

After specializing in Digital Business & Marketing, you become, for example

  • Digital Marketer / Online Sales Specialist. You help companies grow online and ensure that websites and advertisements deliver real results.
  • Growth Marketer / Data Analyst. You analyze online behavior and set up smart data-driven campaigns to generate leads and sales.

After specializing in Sports Marketing, you become, for example

  • Sports Marketer / Sports Media Specialist. You put sports brands and clubs on the map and activate the fanbase via social media.
  • Event & Sponsorship Manager. You organize sports events, ensure a great fan experience, and arrange partnerships in the sports business.

Would you prefer to continue your studies? That is, of course, also possible! You can easily progress to a suitable HBO or Associate Degree program, such as Commercial Economics, Creative Business, or (specifically after the sports marketing specialization) SPECO Sports Marketing or Sports Communication.

What does your education look like?

In the first year, you'll immediately begin working on exciting projects and take general courses that expand your marketing and communication knowledge. In years 1 and 2, you'll combine school and internships, gaining practical experience. Did you know you can even do your internship abroad?

In the second year, you'll work with fellow students to start a real-world mini-business, securing and carrying out practical assignments. Examples of assignments include maintaining a company's social media presence or reaching a new target audience for a company. This will put everything you've learned so far into practice.

In the third year you start with six months of school and complete the course with a graduation internship.

You'll take courses that prepare you for the profession, including standard courses like Dutch, English, and math. You'll also choose one or more electives to broaden or deepen your knowledge, such as entrepreneurship, general economics, or International I. What prior education do you need?

For the vocational training (level 3) and middle management training (level 4) you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, a theoretical pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track, or a mixed pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) track.
  • You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
  • You have a basic vocational training diploma (level 2) or a diploma from another vocational training course (level 3).
  • You have proof that you successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). Or you have another diploma or certificate recognized by the government.

Additionally

It is important that you have had subjects from the Economics sector in your package.

You will be invited for a personal interview where we will determine whether this course is a good fit for you.

From pre-university secondary education (havo), pre-university education (vwo) or higher professional education (hbo): enter in the 2nd or 3rd year

Are you in year 4 or 5 of pre-university secondary education (HAVO), do you have a HAVO or VWO diploma, or are you coming from a university of applied sciences (HBO)? Then you may be eligible for the second or third year. During a personal interview, we'll determine your eligibility and the duration of your program.
