Social worker (bol)

Allowing people to live as independently as possible

As a social worker, you guide and support people so that they can participate fully in society.

With the social worker training you make a difference

You support people in coping with and preventing problems in their daily lives, so they can (re)integrate into society. You provide information, advice, and guidance on laws, regulations, and procedures in various areas of life. You can also guide vulnerable groups in leisure activities or education.

A challenging education and job

From neighborhood accommodations of (semi)governmental organizations or welfare organizations, you work together with people of all ages and from different backgrounds.

Wondering if a social work program is right for you? As a social worker, you're a support worker and advisor. You're flexible and persistent. You're not afraid to address difficult issues because you know people need to take action themselves. But you're also tactful and see opportunities where others give up.

Social work training mbo 4

Many students choose "social work" for their level 4 vocational education (MBO) program. With your level 4 MBO diploma, you can progress to a higher professional education (HBO) program in social work. If you decide not to continue your studies, your MBO-4 diploma will open the door to a wide range of opportunities in this rewarding, highly valued role.

More information.

What are you becoming?

After three years, you'll graduate as a social worker (also known as a social worker) and can start working for a municipality, housing association, or welfare organization, for example. Alternatively, you can continue your studies at a university of applied sciences (HBO). You can, for example, progress to the following HBO programs: Social Work, Pedagogy, Applied Psychology (with mathematics at the senior general secondary education level), and the Social Legal Services program. Whatever you choose, we'll work together to ensure you're well-prepared for the future.

What does your education look like?

During your Social Worker training, in addition to subjects you need for your future profession, you will also take a number of general subjects and do an internship.

  • In the first year of your program, you'll first explore your options: you'll carefully examine your training and profession, and identify your learning needs. Who am I as a social worker, what are their areas of expertise, and how can I develop within these areas?
  • In the second year, as a social worker, you'll focus on social services and/or cultural work. You'll complete a three-day internship. A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for the internship.
  • In the third year, you'll complete a graduation internship. You'll research a specific topic within your internship, identifying areas for improvement. You'll then develop an action plan and implement improvement measures. You'll need a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) for the internship.

During your studies, you'll work increasingly independently. You'll increasingly determine your own learning path. Once you've mastered all the work processes for your future career, you can graduate.
