Smart Industry Technician

The technology of tomorrow

You're a technician with a level-3 vocational diploma and want to develop your skills further. The Smart Industry Technician program will make you the technician of the future. Smart Industry, also known as Industry 4.0, is becoming increasingly important in the manufacturing industry. Especially in our Brainport region, where companies are rapidly digitizing, automating, and robotizing.

The course combines electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and measurement and control technology with ICT.

You'll learn to design, program, and test embedded electronics. You'll learn all about components like sensors and actuators, and control technology like microcontrollers and PLCs. Communication and control protocols (Internet of Things), big data, robotics, and lean working are also covered.

The program is co-created with 30 companies in the Brainport region. The course materials and projects were developed in collaboration with them. You'll visit companies and receive guest lectures, workshops, and guidance from industry professionals.

You work 4 days a week and you go to school 1 day a week.

The school year is divided into blocks linked to themes that are important for the smart industry.

You will learn this

In the first year you follow 1 blocks:

  • Simple smart product: you build and test a data logger based on an embedded system
  • From stupid to smart working: you optimize a traditional process by adding smart technology
  • Lean production line: you learn to understand and monitor a production line and make recommendations to optimize the line
  • Smart proof of concept: based on a customer's request, you develop and implement a proof of concept with smart technology.
