Talent for semiconductors

Joint training for the chip industry of tomorrow

A social mission for the region

The world runs on chips. From your smartphone to medical devices, from electric cars to satellites – without semiconductors, everything grinds to a halt. And here, in the heart of Brainport Eindhoven, lies the epicenter of the European chip industry.

But there is a challenge. The demand for technicians is growing exponentially. By 2030, the Brainport region will need 6000 additional skilled vocational (MBO) professionals, while the supply is lagging behind. This isn't just a business problem—it's a societal imperative. Without sufficient talent, innovation will stagnate, the energy transition will slow, and Europe will lose its technological sovereignty.

We take up that challenge. At Summa, we see it as our mission to train the professionals who keep this industry running. Not just for the economy, but for a resilient, sustainable future.

Your future in the chip industry

Do you want to work on world-changing technology? The semiconductor industry offers challenging jobs, excellent benefits, and the security of a growing sector.

  • Job security: The demand for technicians will remain high in the coming years and will only increase.
  • good working conditions: Technical starters earn above average in this sector.
  • Making an impactContribute to innovations in healthcare and sustainable energy.
  • International environment: Work in a dynamic, often English-speaking environment with colleagues from all over the world.

Whether you are a young person or a career changer looking to retrain, or an experienced technician looking to specialize, there is a route that suits you.

Training courses for the chip industry

We train the skilled professionals the semiconductor industry needs, from operator to specialist.

Find out here what suits you, for example.

  • Mechatronics (MBO 2/3/4)The combination of mechanics, electronics and control technology for complex chip machines.
  • Electrical Engineering (MBO 2/3/4): Essential for keeping systems and installations running.
  • Precision Engineering / Precision Mechanical Engineering (MBO 2/3/4): For extremely precise work at micrometer level.
  • Operator training (MBO 2/3/4): For the professionals who run the cleanrooms and production lines.
  • Bbl- Plus: tailor-made training in which the student receives a lot of practical lessons in addition to the regular Bbl training

You want to do something in technology, but you don't know exactly what?

With Orientation Technology and Engineering Discover it all in a maximum of one academic year. You'll get hands-on experience, work with modern tools, and discover step by step where your interests and talents lie. This will give you a clear idea of which technical or technological program suits you best. After this orientation year, you can progress directly to a suitable Summa program at level 3 or 4.

Why Talent for Semicon a social mission is

The world runs on chips, and Brainport Eindhoven is the heart of this European industry. However, there's a major challenge: by 2030, the region will need thousands of additional vocational (MBO) professionals. ASML, NXP, Prodrive, VDL, and hundreds of suppliers are looking for new employees – now and in the coming years.

  • 10.000+ vacanciesIn the Brainport region alone, there are thousands of unfilled technical vacancies.
  • Strategic industryChips are crucial for defense, healthcare, energy and mobility.
  • European ambitionThe EU wants to double chip production – and that requires doubling talent.
  • Social prosperity: Each technician indirectly creates work for 4-5 other jobs in the region.

This isn't just about profit or growth. It's about strategic independence from Asia, achieving climate goals through electric innovation, high-quality healthcare, and our collective security.

Technical talent is everywhere

We believe the solution to the technician shortage isn't about finding the "perfect candidate," but about seeing potential where others miss it.

  • Everyone with golden hands deserves a chance: Regardless of background or starting point.
  • Potential beyond diploma: We don't look at numbers, we look at talent.
  • Diversity strengthens: The industry doesn't need just one type of technician, but a wide range of talent.
  • Seize your chance: It's never too late to start or start again.

The semiconductor industry requires various profiles: from practical professionals (MBO 2-3) and maintenance specialists (MBO 4) to process operators and those transitioning to higher professional education.

Shoulder to shoulder with the industry

We're not solving this shortage from a classroom alone. We're doing it together – in co-creation with the companies that need the technicians. Our collaboration goes beyond internships; we develop training programs together and ensure that students work with the same machines and processes as in the factory.

We work together with partners such as ASML, NXP Semiconductors, VDL Group, Prodrive Technologies, Nearways and more than 100 SME suppliers in the region. Our hybrid instructors are the link between these worlds; they work for these partners and directly transfer current practical knowledge into the training.

Strategic partnership for talent development

Are you looking for technical talent on a regular basis? We offer more than just training – we are your strategic partner.

  • Bbl-PlusWe train future employees in a practice-oriented environment.
  • Customized programs: Customized training, from short courses to complete learning paths.
  • Hybrid teachingWe facilitate teaching methods for experts who want to teach.
  • Joint recruitment: Together we look for talent, from school leavers to lateral entrants.
