What does the process look like?

The VIA program focuses on progression to levels 2, 3, or 4 and pre-vocational secondary education (VAVO). This profile is primarily for young people from vocational education (MBO). It consists of several phases, each with its own content and approach. After completing each phase, you, your mentor, and your parents will meet. There are several intake sessions throughout the year, with a new group starting every 4-6 weeks.

What will you learn?

Your personal development is the foundation of the program: you'll explore who you are, what you want, what you can do, and what you need. You'll (re)orient yourself towards education and/or work, so you can make a suitable school or career choice later.

The program consists of various assignments and lessons, such as orientation assignments, sector lessons, and orientation internships. We often go out, so you can experience what it's like at different schools and companies. You'll have regular meetings with your mentor to discuss your own development.

The program also includes basic subjects such as Dutch, math, English, and citizenship. You can take some exams in advance so you can transfer your results to your further education. In addition to the program mentioned above, the following subjects may also be included: hospitality, digital skills (ICT), sports, technology, crafts, and various electives.

After the process

The program lasts a maximum of one year. After that, you'll be ready to take the next step in your (school) career. We'll help you with your application and work with you to ensure a smooth transition. If you've made a suitable choice after VIA and decide to continue elsewhere, we'll stay in touch.

If, during the process, it turns out that there are other issues that need to be resolved before you can start a new program, we'll help you take the first steps.

What prior education do you need?

  • You have a pre-vocational secondary education diploma or a transfer certificate from 3 to 4 year pre-university secondary education (havo).
  • If you're a Summa student, your school's care coordinator can register you for VIA. If you're coming from another school, Traject VIA primarily operates on an outsourced basis. This means that for your time at VIA, your previous school transfers part of the funding to VIA.
  • For any questions or conditions regarding this matter, please contact us. Please see our telephone consultation hours.

What happens after registration?

After you register, you'll be invited for an introductory meeting. You'll then be told when you can start the program. If, after the meeting, the VIA program doesn't seem like a good fit for you, we'll work with you to explore other options.

When you start the program, you'll be assigned a permanent mentor and work in a fixed group of up to 16 students. In your classroom, you'll often be taught by your mentor and receive intensive guidance. You'll have regular one-on-one coaching sessions with your mentor.
