Vocational English in childcare

The course focuses on what happens on the work floor. During the lessons, we'll discuss your daily situations. Your fellow students will provide input and inspire you.

At the start of the course, we'll assess the group's different levels; the trainer will take this into account as much as possible. The goal of the course is to teach you practical vocabulary, but we'll also provide practice techniques to help you develop a foundation for continued practice and learning.

Through your daily work in childcare, role-playing, and practical assignments, you'll build the confidence to communicate with English-speaking and non-English-speaking parents and caregivers. You'll receive homework assignments to help you immediately apply your new vocabulary and other knowledge. This will give you more experience in having conversations in English. We'll provide you with tools you can use in the workplace, and the course materials will be adapted, where possible, to the needs of you and your fellow students.

Lesson 1

• What's in the building? In and around the building, useful vocabulary.
• First day/intake/tours for new parents
• Daily schedule in daycare center
• Games and activities

Lesson 2

• How do you discuss observations/development with parents/caregivers regarding the child monitoring system?
• Parent meetings planned/unplanned, drop-off and pick-up times
• Clock / alphabet / data

Lesson 3

• Discussing healthy childcare with parents
• Cultural differences in nutrition/upbringing
• Talking about childhood illnesses
• Describing children's feelings

Lesson 4

• Follow-up day: review and implementation of a practical assignment.
• Inspiring each other for the future
• Evaluation
