A practitioner's position is an expertise platform within a vocational education (MBO) institution where practical (and focused) research is conducted. The goal is to disseminate knowledge and innovation, and to train innovative professionals. Summa currently has four practitioner positions active. More information about them can be found on this page.

Practorate Sustainability and Energy Transition

This practitioner program focuses specifically on the technical programs (Summa Construction, Summa Electrical & Installation Technology, Summa Engineering, and Summa Technology). The urgency and ambition of the Energy Transition require (further) training of current and aspiring technicians to become energy technicians. Energy technicians must be able to apply, build, and install different energy concepts, technologies, different building concepts, and energy generation. Furthermore, a different mindset is required for practicing the profession. A continuous critical awareness of sustainability among (prospective) technicians is crucial in making daily choices in their professional practice. In this way, we provide an additional impetus to the cultural shift in the technical sectors and the acceleration of the energy transition through education.

Sustainable and Smart Mobility Practorate

The goal of this professorship is to promote co-creation with the business community and to drive innovation together with companies, lecturers, and students. This will foster greater connection, reinforcement, and collaboration beyond the walls of the institution, thereby increasing impact. Current education systems are insufficiently aligned with the demands of the rapidly changing market, and there is insufficient room within the education system to adopt innovations from the sector. This professorship fills the missing link. The professorship generates research questions: current needs and future requirements. We will translate these into educational innovation: new lessons, new knowledge for lecturers, and new materials.

Practorate Smart Care Together

The healthcare landscape is currently undergoing significant change. A new social domain is emerging with a greater emphasis on prevention, self-reliance, and collaboration. The practical application of these societal changes, evolving healthcare, and rapid technological innovation to education is central to the professorship. Within the professorship, practice-oriented research is conducted for knowledge development, dissemination, and application. Vocational (MBO) (healthcare) students excel at implementation and application. We utilize them as innovative potential. They bring firsthand experience of the customer and client experience to citizens with support needs. This encourages their investigative and proactive approach. The connection between citizens, students, and the business community is strengthened, and students are challenged to excel.

Practorate Relational Working in an Educational Organization

This professorship aims to support Summa's shift toward a values-driven organization through practice- and change-oriented research on relational work. The professorship is positioned under the Summa 2030 strategy. Research is being conducted into how relational work can gain a more prominent place in education. Relational work is at the core of the presence approach. This way of working originates from the world of healthcare and social work. The presence approach posits that you can only provide truly good care if, as a caregiver, you continuously connect with and attune yourself to the care recipient. In the professorship, we translate this into education by conducting research into what relational work entails in an educational organization and how to promote this way of working. If we want our education to meet future societal demands, this requires a shift from primarily qualification-oriented work to a greater focus on the development of the individual.

Practorate Effective Didactics

The Effective Didactics professorship is closely linked to Summa's "Vision on Learning." The professorship aims to sustain educational improvements and foster an investigative mindset and research skills. The main question of the Effective Didactics professorship is: Which practical principles contribute to effective learning within Summa? We attempt to answer this question in research workshops, where lecturers collaborate on research and design.
