Hospitality Foundation Year Level 2 (BOL)

Get started in hospitality! In a joint foundation year, you'll learn all there is to know about this vibrant industry. This way, you'll discover where your passion lies. You'll choose a specialization later.

Are you hospitable, do you enjoy organizing, and do you enjoy making others happy? Are you also interested in recreational activities and/or preparing and serving delicious dishes? Then our level 2 hospitality courses are perfect for you!

Summa Hospitality, Summa Facilities, and Summa Leisure have joined forces to create a joint program, providing a broad foundation for your future. The Chef, Host/Hostess, Facilities Services, and Recreation programs share a foundation year. You'll learn all the necessary subjects in your first year. You'll also indicate your preferred program in this year. Therefore, enroll in one of these programs:

If you decide to change your major during your first year, you can. In your second year, you'll specialize and choose your final major.

What are you becoming?

You'll be introduced to the Summa Facility, Summa Hospitality, and Summa Leisure programs at level 2. In the first year, you'll learn all the necessary skills in facility services, hospitality, and recreation. In the second year, you'll specialize. You'll then choose the following specialization:

  • Chef, level 2 (bol)
  • Host/Hostess, level 2 (bol)
  • Facility Services Employee, Level 2 (BOL)
  • Recreational employee, level 2 (bol)

In the first year you work and learn in the lively environment of Summa PlazaThere are several hospitality hotspots here, as well as a logistics hub. Concierge, reprographics, and administrative services are also provided. You'll have plenty of opportunity, time, and space to discover what truly suits you.

Elective courses

During your studies, you choose one or more electives to specialize or broaden your knowledge. For example, in entrepreneurship, management, programming, or a language. You'll receive more information about the electives available during your program. Each elective concludes with an exam. Read more about elective courses.

What prior education do you need?

For basic vocational training (level 2) you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have a diploma in pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a basic vocational track, a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a framework vocational track, a pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) with a theoretical track, or a mixed track.
  • You have an (older) diploma from lbo, vbo, mavo or mavo-vbo.
  • You have an entry-level training or basic vocational training diploma (level 2).
  • You have proof that you have successfully completed the first three years of pre-university or senior general secondary education (havo) or pre-university education (vwo). This proof is recognized by the government.
