Machinist: fun facts

Fun facts about our machining training courses and the machining profession.

• You can machine metal, but also wood, plastics, graphite and so on.
• We offer training courses in machining 3 levels: machinist (2), all-round machinist (3) and machining technologist (4).
• Turning, milling, grinding, sawing and sparking are all forms of machining.
• You remove so much material from a block until you the desired shape has left.
• At Summa Techniek there are approximately 200 students who are studying machining.
• Sometimes a workpiece needs to be so smooth like a mirror. Other times the surface needs a little more grip.
• Our subject teachers have years of practical experience. Not only in their field of expertise, but often also as a supervisor.
• Often your workpiece may not deviate by more than 0,2 millimeters. That is approximately the thickness of an A4 sheet of paper.
• It can be much more precise. Our state-of-the-art five-axis milling machine is accurate to 0,004 millimetersA human hair is easily 10 times thicker.
• During our bbl training courses you work four days a week and attend theory classes at school one day a week.
• In our Teclab, schools and businesses come together. Companies can to do research and make products.
• Many of the students who complete their studies with us go on to ahigher level education.
• If you take the level 4 training (Machining Technologist), you will regularly receive lessons from guest lecturers about the latest state of the art.
• Create a you don't need a math head, but it is useful if you can quickly calculate an angle, a speed or your vacation hours yourself.
• Companies have a hard time finding machinists, so you have found a job like that.
• In the high-tech region of Eindhoven, technology is moving fast. Our teachers pick up developments quickly and incorporate them into the teaching material.
