Unique training for brand dealer mechanics

"Working at a brand dealership is different from working at a general-purpose company. Mechanics, for example, deal with warranty claims, recalls, and software and technology updates. In collaboration with Summa and several dealerships in the region, we've developed a unique training package for this: the top dealer class," says Ron Brink of Van den Udenhout.

Every year, several technicians from each participating dealership take the training course. They learn about brand-specific practical situations and are updated on the latest technology. These technicians are a real asset to the workshop. Together with Summa, we regularly evaluate the training program to ensure it remains up-to-date and future-proof.

More than training

This partnership also offers advantages in recruitment and selection. Every year around April, a Meet & Greet takes place where (prospective) mechanics can meet all the dealers. The accessibility and the opportunity to shadow each other for a day increase the chance of a good match for both parties. The entire process is a golden opportunity: good for us as dealers, allowing us to offer our customers the best, and good for the mechanic, who can expand their knowledge and skills. Very valuable.

Extensive collaboration with Summa

We also collaborate with Summa in other areas. There's a great need for knowledge among instructors because developments in the automotive industry are moving so rapidly. We share training information from importers that helps instructors maintain their knowledge. Summa proactively offers ideas for bridging the gap in knowledge of mechanics and electronics among many older mechanics. The guidance and communication with us is excellent. The lines of communication are short and the threshold is low, which is a great thing about Summa.

Van den Udenhout is a brand dealer for VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Cupra, VW commercial vehicles, and Kalkhof bicycles. Other brand dealers participating in this project are Driessen Autogroep, Van Roosmalen, Pala Group (BMW and MINI), Janssen Kerres, ASV, and Nefkens.
