Summa wins sustainability award
On December 8, 2023, Summa won the "Kickstarters" incentive award; a national award for vocational schools in the field of sustainability.
This took place during the vocational symposium "Sustainable Thinking & Doing" in 's-Hertogenbosch. It was the first time this incentive award was presented. Rijn IJssel from Arnhem/Wageningen came in second. ROC Midden Nederland from the Utrecht region finished third.
Director Renate Reijmers is proud that her educational institution has already scored highly on this theme. "We're off to a flying start with our sustainability program. This award is a huge boost for all the dedicated colleagues at Summa working on this topic."
The Kickstarter Award jury praised Summa's "thorough" approach to sustainability. Sustainability is one of the five pillars of Summa's strategy. An ambitious program has been developed to make significant strides in sustainable innovations throughout Summa in the coming years.
"This isn't just about making buildings more sustainable, but also about embedding sustainability in education. It goes beyond just environmental aspects," Reijmers explains. "We're also looking at the social side of sustainability, at equality and inclusivity. Because of climate change and polarization, we're therefore focusing broadly on this theme."
The incentive award is an initiative of the Cooperative Learning for Tomorrow. Participating schools are assessed on their level of sustainability in education, practice, business operations, and their integrated approach. A total of eight vocational schools participated in the Kickstarter category.
