MBO students level 1-2

Your supplementary grant:

• The supplementary grant is an addition to your basic grant. For MBO levels 1-2, it's a gift. You don't have to repay it.
• The supplementary grant can be as much as €381 per month.
• You are in any case entitled to the maximum amount if your parents receive less than
  Earn €37.583 per year. If your parents earn more, you can often still receive a partial supplementary grant.
• The more siblings you have attending school, the higher your supplementary grant.

MBO students level 3-4

Your supplementary grant:

• The supplementary grant supplements your basic grant. For MBO levels 3-4, it's a loan you have to repay. However, if you graduate within 10 years, it's a gift. You don't have to repay it.
• The supplementary grant can be as much as €381 per month.
• You are in any case entitled to the maximum amount if your parents receive less than
  Earn €37.583 per year. If your parents earn more, you can often still receive a partial supplementary grant.
• The more siblings you have attending school, the higher your supplementary grant.

How do you apply for the supplementary grant?

You only need to apply for the supplementary grant once. DUO will then (usually) automatically calculate your eligibility each year. Applying is easy and can even be done retroactively to the beginning of the school year.

Step 1: Go to duo.nl and log in with your DigiD.

Step 2: Go to 'My Products' in the blue bar at the top and select 'Student Finance'.

Step 3: Click on 'Apply for supplementary grant'.

Do you have to repay the supplementary grant?

The supplementary grant for MBO level 1 or 2 is automatically a gift. You don't have to repay the money. The supplementary grant for MBO level 3 or 4 becomes a gift if you obtain your diploma within 10 years. If you don't succeed, you must repay the money, including interest. Accepting a supplementary grant for level 3 or 4 involves taking out a loan, and borrowing money costs money. Make sure you're well-informed.
