Do you want to develop music education that truly resonates with young people who are new to the Netherlands? At Summa VOAT (secondary education for non-native speakers), you get the chance to build the music subject from the ground up. You develop your own lessons and let students discover how they can express themselves through music, even when the Dutch language is still challenging.

Summa Plus

We are proud of the milestones we have achieved and continue building the Summa 2030 strategy together. Development is a lifelong process. So that you can seize opportunities on your path with both hands and face challenges with confidence.

Summa Plus is part of Summa. At Summa Plus, we give young people who need a 'plus' the chance to achieve their goals. We offer education as well as care and guidance programs. Our students are seen and heard; they feel that they matter.

Working at Summa Plus offers prospects. Our employees are specialists in their field and seek collaboration with parents, schools, and partners. Together, we help young people discover their talents and take steps towards their future.

Working at Summa. Home base for talent discoverers.

Your impact as a Music teacher

  • You let students experience that they can also express themselves without words and connect with others.
  • You bring young people from different backgrounds together by making music and learning from each other.
  • You help students discover their talents, gain experiences of success, and build confidence in their own abilities.

This is what you will do as a Music Teacher

Music is a new subject at Summa VOAT starting in February. This means that you will not only teach the lessons but also have the freedom to shape the music education yourself.

  • You develop a music curriculum that aligns with the different levels, backgrounds, and abilities of our students.
  • Starting in February, you will provide music lessons in which students actively engage with music, for example by singing, discovering rhythms, and making music together.
  • You adapt your lessons to what students need. In doing so, you take into account differences in language proficiency, learning experience, and development.
  • You create a safe and trusting atmosphere where students dare to participate, try new things, and are allowed to make mistakes.
  • You work together with colleagues to guide students as effectively as possible in their development.

You will be working at Summa VOAT, part of Summa Plus. Here, we provide education to young people who are new to the Netherlands and guide them in their next step towards further education or employment. You will work with colleagues who are involved in the development and guidance of these young people.

This is what we offer you

  • The opportunity to develop a new course within Summa VOAT, where you are given ample room to apply your own ideas and creativity.
  • A 0,6 FTE position in which you work with colleagues who dedicate themselves daily to young people who need extra guidance.
  • A salary in accordance with the MBO collective labor agreement, scale LB, between €3.713 and €5.495 gross per month based on full-time employment.
  • A one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent contract.
  • A year-end bonus of 8,33%, pension accrual with ABP, and a laptop and phone on loan.
  • Opportunities to further develop yourself through training programs, courses, and our annual development festival.

This is what we expect from you

  • You have completed a higher professional education (HBO) in a relevant field, preferably a Music teacher training program or primary teacher training (PABO).
  • You have extensive experience teaching music lessons and can independently develop a suitable curriculum.
  • You are strong in pedagogy and didactics and know how to tailor your lessons to students with diverse backgrounds and educational needs.
  • You have experience guiding and motivating young people who need extra support.
  • You know how to create a safe learning environment where students feel at ease and are given the space to develop.
  • You are creative in your teaching approach and enjoy devising and trying out new teaching methods.
  • You are committed to your students, but you also know where your role as a teacher ends and that of other supervisors begins.
