ASML and Summa continue successful language program for internationals
ASML and Summa are extending their successful language program for internationals in the Brainport region. Over the next two years, more than 500 participants will once again receive tailor-made Dutch lessons to strengthen their language skills and position in the labor market.
The language program is implemented by Taalkracht, a part of Summa that focuses on language education and guidance for, among others, internationals in the Brainport region. This involves not only Dutch lessons, but also support towards employment, development, and participation in society.
Successful first edition gets a sequel
With the extension, Summa and ASML are building on a successful program that was first conducted last year. More than 500 participants received a certificate of participation. Therefore, Summa and ASML have decided to continue their collaboration and once again offer places to 520 participants.
The participants are highly educated internationals from the Brainport region who are seeking work or wish to improve their chances on the labor market. Many participants possess knowledge and experience that is in high demand in the region, but face limitations on the labor market due to language barriers. During the program, they not only learn to speak, read, and write Dutch better, but also receive workshops and guidance and are put in contact with employers in the region. In addition, volunteers from ASML contribute to the program by supporting participants in strengthening their position on the labor market.
Investing together in opportunities and development
The demand for Dutch language lessons in the Brainport region has been growing for years. At the same time, regular programs are under pressure due to long waiting lists and declining public funding. ASML funds the program, thereby helping to alleviate the pressure on waiting lists for language education in the region.
“The recent program has shown how great the need is for this type of education in the region,” says Annemarie Moons, Chair of the Executive Board of Summa. “We saw participants who, thanks to language, gained more job opportunities, began to feel more confident, and found their way in the region more quickly. It is precisely this combination of language, personal guidance, and connection with employers that makes this program valuable. It is wonderful that we can continue this together with ASML.”
ASML also views the collaboration as an important regional initiative. “We notice that many internationals are eager to participate, work, and contribute in this region, but that language often forms a barrier,” says Marjolein de Hooge, Head of Corporate Social Engagement. “With the Taalkracht program, we help lower that barrier. The impact goes beyond work alone. It also helps people become more socially connected to their environment. We hope this inspires other organizations to invest in language and development as well.”
New group starts in October
The new program runs through December 2027 and targets a total of 520 participants. The program lasts 46 weeks and consists of:
* intensive Dutch lessons;
* workshops focused on work and development;
* activities and meetings with employers in the region;
* personal guidance during the process.
