Summa is very flexible

02 February 2021
A boy is welding.

Summa has created a customized welding course for Van Bakel Personnel Services, specifically for the target group and companies we work with. For three months, the student attends Summa four days a week. At the end of the program, they will have a nationally recognized diploma from the Netherlands Institute for Welding Technology or a practice statement at the same level. The latter is intended for people without a starting qualification. We've already trained and placed nearly a hundred people. Young and old, refugees with a residence permit, lateral entrants. Generally, people who have been unemployed for a longer period. If they successfully complete the welding course, we guarantee them at least six months of work.

Summa and Van Bakel Personnel Services have a clear division of labor for the welding course. Summa provides the theory and practice. They also handle the test day, where they assess the candidate's technical aptitude and ability to be trained within three months. We act as a kind of career counselor. We meet with the student weekly, to see how they're doing, but especially to get to know them. We want to know what they're made of, how motivated they are, and what their interests are. This allows us to determine which company they're a good fit for. After placement at a company, we stay in touch. Guidance is also important then, especially at the beginning. While the welder has a diploma, they're still a beginner with a lot to learn.

Flexibility in welding courses

The collaboration with Summa is good and pleasant. They have excellent instructors and good equipment. What's especially nice is their flexibility. If I call today to ask if I want someone to test for the welding course, it can often be arranged within a few days. To find the right people for the course, we look beyond resumes. Someone without technical experience might still be very involved with technology in their private lives. Hobbies and interests are important. Just like the answer to the question: why do you want to be a welder? Welding is a craft in itself, a passion that someone wants to fully dedicate themselves to. They are passionate about their work. We're happy to help them. Because where there's a will, there's a way.
