Working with people with disabilities is very satisfying
Brett Lens
“The word agogie means that you work with specific target groups, often people with disabilities. You are being trained As a movement coordinator or assistant to a gym teacher, you can also independently provide daytime activities for the elderly or physiotherapy and fitness classes for someone in rehabilitation.
Working with people with disabilities takes some getting used to, because you often seem to make little progress. It's just small steps forward in areas that are so natural to me. I had to learn to see those tiny steps. But now that I see them, I've come to appreciate them immensely.
A good example is when I facilitate a game for children at my internship. For me, that game is perfectly normal, but for some children, it's not. And even if it doesn't go so well, I see the joy the children are having. Then I know what I've accomplished. That's so satisfying.
During my second-year internship, I met the school where I'm currently interning. They were clearly pleased with me. I was incredibly enthusiastic, demonstrating a strong commitment and taking a lot of initiative. But more importantly, the children remembered me, and I think that's a huge compliment.
