Students from Summa Automotive & Smart Mobility won the H2GP World Final in Chemnitz, Germany. After six hours of racing, they led the field with an impressive 1111 laps. "We already saw after an hour and a half that we had a good chance, because we drove very consistently," says Niels Teunissen van Manen. Along with his teammates Bart Wilbers, Bram Vosters, Jesper van Stokkum, and Jeroen Langenveld, he can now call himself world champion.

The world championship is the reward for three years of hard work. "A truly unreal achievement, after two editions with various awards in America (2023, 2024)," says Niels. There was great confidence within the team that a positive outcome would come. "We saw that our car consistently outperformed those of the other teams. Halfway through the race, we could even push ourselves a bit harder if necessary." Ultimately, the students steadily increased their lead. "Years of effort have paid off; that's fantastic," says Niels proudly.

Solutions for the world of tomorrow

The competition isn't about standard vehicles, but about self-built scale models that run on hydrogen. Each year, the students improve their designs, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and new technologies. Their approach demonstrates what smart mobility means: devising solutions for the world of tomorrow.

A second Summa team also competed. They raced in the hybrid category (half battery, half hydrogen) and finished an impressive sixth in a particularly strong field. A total of twelve teams competed, including some very strong American competitors.

The achievements in Chemnitz clearly demonstrate that Summa students not only learn but also achieve international success. Summa thanks Erasmus Plus for its important contribution to experiences like this.
