Canvas hit by security incident again: login temporarily unavailable
The digital learning environment Canvas was affected by another security incident during the night of Friday, May 8. On the advice of SURF – the ICT organization for education – and the MBO Raad, Summa has decided to disconnect Canvas from our systems as a precaution. As a result, logging in is not possible until further notice.
What does this mean for you?
Canvas is temporarily unavailable for students and staff. This may affect classes, assignments, and communication from degree programs. We strive to ensure that education continues as much as possible.
The consequences and necessary adjustments are being assessed for each study program. Your study program and study coaches will keep you informed about this via WhatsApp/Signal.
Exams will also continue as usual.
The exams will proceed as planned. You can register for exams and view the exam schedule via https://start.summacollege.nl/Look there under the heading 'examination'.
Study coaches keep students informed
Because communication via Canvas is not possible until further notice, study coaches have been asked to keep students informed of any changes to classes, assignments, or schedules.
Updates from Summa are also shared via Eduarte and on www.summa-onderwijs.nl/nieuws/canvas/.
Which data might be involved?
According to the information currently available, Summa email addresses of students and staff may be involved in the security incident. Canvas also reports that data from the chat and messaging functionality may be involved. However, these functionalities are not enabled within Summa.
Stay alert for phishing
We ask students and staff to pay extra attention to suspicious emails. If you receive an email that you do not trust or that differs from what you normally receive, do not click on links and do not share any personal information.
Don't trust it? Then report it directly to the service point via servicepunt@summacollege.nl.
Stay informed
Keep an eye on this page. As soon as new Summa-wide information is available, we will share it here.
