There's more to life than just studying. Every week, we publish an article with information that might be important to you, both at school and outside of school. This time: how to combine your part-time job with your studies.

Whether you work behind the supermarket checkout, help your neighbor with her support stockings, fry burgers at the local McDonald's, or deliver packages as a bicycle courier, chances are you, as a vocational student, have a part-time job alongside your studies.

With today's prices, I don't blame you! But how do you ensure this work doesn't compromise your studies? Read: your (dream) job for the future? With these tips, you can cleverly combine school with your part-time job!

Set yourself goals

Clearly outline your goals for both your studies and your work. Actually write them down and hang them in a prominent place in your bedroom where you'll be reminded to look at them regularly. This will help you stay focused and use your time effectively.

Make a schedule

Create a detailed schedule for your study and work hours. This ensures you have enough time for both schoolwork and your job.

Discuss your situation with your employer and teachers

Do this so that they are aware of your obligations and can, if necessary, help you find a balance.

Set priorities

You often feel like everything is equally urgent. But is that really the case? And what needs to be done, do you have to do it all, or can someone else perhaps take over? Focus on the most important tasks to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

Study efficiently

Take advantage of your free time to study, such as during work breaks or your daily commute. Use study methods that work best for you, whether it's flashcards, summaries, or group study.

Be flexible

Sometimes something unexpected happens that throws your schedule off course. As frustrating as that may be, it's helpful to be able to act quickly in those situations. Be prepared for this so you can still get your tasks done without losing sight of your goals.

And lastly:

Take care of yourself

Don't forget to get plenty of rest. Listen to your body! A good night's sleep, enough exercise, and a healthy diet are essential for performing well at school and work.

Good luck finding the right work-life balance! P.S. Are you struggling with something (else)? Talk to someone you connect with, either at school or outside of school.
