Mechatronics Technician (BBL)

For smart people with technical and ICT skills

As a Mechatronics Technician, you build and design the future. Smart devices with microcontrollers, inventive machines, and large mechatronics systems are the work of your hands.

The program provides you with a broad introduction to the field. Together with your study coach, you choose what you want to learn more about. The following directions within the field of mechatronics technician, among others, are covered.

Smart Industry

Smart industry, also known as Industry 4.0, is becoming increasingly important in business. More and more devices, production resources, and organizations are being digitized and interconnected. For example, smart machines communicate with each other and with devices that automatically notify them when they need service. This sector requires skilled professionals with both technical and ICT skills: Smart Industry technicians.

As a Smart Industry technician, you'll work with smart devices that use microcontrollers, for example. You'll learn to design, program, and test embedded electronics.

During your program, you'll learn all about components like sensors and actuators, and control technology like microcontrollers and PLCs. Communication and control protocols (internet of things) will also be covered. You'll learn more about big data and robotics.

As a Smart Industry technician, you'll have an executive and supervisory role. You'll build complete machines and/or installations independently, as part of a small team, or as part of a team. You'll be responsible for your own work. You'll test the machine or installation yourself by applying measurement and testing methods and techniques. This training will help you succeed in the rapidly growing and evolving Smart Industry!

Electrical systems

As an electrical systems technician, you'll be a jack of all trades. You'll learn to build, inspect, test, modify, connect, and commission equipment.

Based on customer needs, you'll make improvements to existing machines or create a customized device. You'll carefully analyze customer needs and translate them into smart solutions. You'll get malfunctioning machines running smoothly again. You'll work independently and manage colleagues. Therefore, we place a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication skills in the training.

Mechatronics systems

You build and design new machines. You also improve existing ones. You usually receive the necessary components, but sometimes you make them yourself.

To achieve this, you'll use all your knowledge and skills in electrical and mechanical engineering. You'll read technical drawings and prepare thoroughly to ensure the work is completed on time.

You will receive lessons in the modern environment of Brainport Industries Campus.

What are you becoming?

If you continue in the Smart Industry, you will work primarily with electrical engineering and electronics. In addition, you will frequently come into contact with ICT (hardware and software), measurement and control technology, control engineering, and mechanical engineering. For example, you could work for equipment manufacturers, the 3D printing industry, and other innovative companies.

If your heart lies with electrotechnical systems, you could, for example, work for a manufacturing company, food company, engineering firm, staffing agency, project developer, or machine building company.

With a Mechatronics Technician diploma and several years of work experience, you can further develop into a manager or specialist in the field of machine construction. You can also work in the administrative office. Further education is also an option, for example by pursuing a technical higher professional education program, the teacher training program for Technology teachers, specific management courses, or in-depth technical courses.

What does your education look like?

You'll attend theory classes at school one day a week. You'll also work for a training company four days a week.
