1-year program
CL1 and CL2
For employees who want to develop their skills in soft lenses.
2-year program
CL1 to CL4
For employees following the full training to become a Contact Lens Specialist.
Each module consists of 15 training days. In the 1-year program, an employee completes 2 modules (30 training days). In the 2-year program, this is 4 modules (30 training days per year). A training day consists of 2 hours of theory and 3 hours of practice.
During the program, there are also guest lectures from the industry and field trips, for example to factories. This ensures the program remains closely connected to practice.

Who is this course interesting for?
The training is intended for employees who are already opticians and wish to further specialize in contact lenses.
What is the difference between the 1-year and 2-year tracks?
In the 1-year track, the employee completes CL1 and CL2. This allows him or her to develop proficiency in soft lenses. In the 2-year track, the employee completes CL1, CL2, CL3, and CL4 and finishes the full training to become a Contact Lens Specialist.
What can an employee do after the 1-year program?
After the one-year program, an employee can fit and assess soft contact lenses. The employee will also possess basic knowledge and practical skills to participate more effectively in a contact lens practice.
What are the practical benefits of this program?
The training provides more knowledge and skills in the workplace. Employees become more versatile and can immediately apply what they learn in the store or in practice.
How is the program structured?
The training consists of four components: CL1, CL2, CL3, and CL4. Each component consists of 15 training days. An employee can choose a 1-year track or the full 2-year route.

Is the study program easy to combine with work?
Yes, the course is structured so that it can be easily combined with work in an optical practice. The class day is Monday and the structure is clear.
What does an employee learn during the training?
The employee learns, among other things, to perform examinations and measurements, fit and assess soft and hard lenses, and work with specialized topics such as myopia, orthokeratology, and medical lenses.
Are there any admission requirements?
Yes. The employee must have an MBO-4 Optician diploma and work in an optical shop.
How much does this training cost?
Voor het studiejaar 2026-2027 bedragen de kosten inclusief readers en (les)materialen maximaal € 3400.

Are there any exam fees?
Yes. The exams are administered and billed separately by SOESV (exam provider). The costs as of January 2026 are:
- Theory exam: €224 excluding VAT
- Practical exam: €376 excluding VAT
Each module, modules 1 through 4, concludes with one theory exam and one practical exam. These exam fees therefore apply per module.
The theory exam takes place at an external location and can be scheduled independently. The practical exam takes place at the school location and is administered by two external assessors.
What diploma or certificate does an employee receive?
Na succesvolle afronding van de volledige opleiding ontvangt de medewerker het branchediploma Contactlensspecialist. Voor het 1-jarige traject ontvangt de medewerker het certificaat zachte lenzen.
