Organizing a hardcore festival as a final exam assignment, that's cool

Summa testimonial Event producer

Merel Geerlings

Former student Event producer

Merel describes herself as an extrovert. Sitting still at school all day? That's not something she'd enjoy. "I could have organized a bingo for seniors for my final exam, but I was looking for more of a challenge." Merel's Event Production program gave her the space and freedom to explore whether she could turn her passion into a career, and she organized a hardcore festival called 'Rumble 'n Chaos'.

Devising a hardcore festival concept, arranging everything, and taking on the organization in just three months is already a daunting task for professionals. But Merel knew she could pull it off. “Luckily, we were working together in a team of three students. This allowed us to divide the work effectively and learn from each other. We considered the location, the festival's name, the genre, theme, and decorations; we looked for a designer and approached artists. Thanks to the solid foundation, everything went smoothly that day. Only the turnout could have been better. That's why it's important to start promoting early.”

"When I started the Event Producer program, I had one dream: to become a stage manager at Pandemonium. That's really starting to become a reality this year. So now I really need to start looking for bigger dreams," says Merel. Although she doesn't have to think about it for very long. "If I can really dream big, I want to organize my own festival, something like Intents. That seems like a really cool thing to do."
