Combination Social Work – Social Care (bol)

Discover how you prefer to work with people

The Combined Social Work and Social Care (SWMZ) program is a new program. This program combines Social Work, Personal Social Care Support Worker (level 4), and Social Care Support Worker (level 3).

You'll become acquainted with the broad field of work that centers around working with people. You'll explore who you are, how you operate, and why you choose to do so. During the program, you'll discover which direction suits you best. Among other things, you'll learn how to guide and support people.

You help people cope with and prevent problems in their daily lives so they can better integrate into society. You do this by providing information, advice, and guidance. You are knowledgeable about regulations and procedures and you guide vulnerable groups in their leisure activities. You provide short-term and/or long-term guidance and support.

At school and during your internship, you'll learn how to interact with people professionally. You'll constantly consider the needs and demands of your target audience, ensuring they maintain control over their own lives. You're flexible and willing to work irregular hours. You're not afraid to address difficult issues because you understand that people need to take action themselves. But you're also tactful and see opportunities where others give up. You're a go-getter with a can-do attitude. You'll gain this experience throughout your program.

What are you becoming?

This program combines Social Work, Personal Support Worker in Social Care (level 4), and Social Support Worker (level 3). During the program, you'll discover which direction suits you best. The field is therefore incredibly broad. You could work for organizations dedicated to disability care, elderly care, the homeless, probation services, psychiatry, special education, community centers, and many other areas. With your level 4 diploma, you can also continue your studies at a university of applied sciences (HBO).

What does your education look like?

In addition to subjects you need for your future profession, you will take a number of general subjects and do an internship.

  • In the first year of your program, you'll first explore your options: you'll carefully examine your education and profession, and identify your learning needs. Who am I as a professional, what are my professional areas, and how can I develop within them? You'll explore the common ground between social work and social care and learn about working with and for people. You'll do this both in class and during internships.
  • In the second year, you'll focus on Social Work or (Personal) Support Work. You'll explore the differences between the various graduation profiles. At the end of the year, you'll choose your preferred graduation profile and level, in consultation with your study coach. An internship also plays a key role here.
  • In the third year you complete the graduation internship within the chosen graduation profile.

During your studies, you'll work increasingly independently. You'll increasingly determine your own learning path. Once you've mastered all the work processes for your future career, you can graduate.
